Summer stuff

I haven't been art deprived this summer. I have been doing some art :)

These are some sketches. I've been working on sketching more and I have seen improvement this summer. I'm still not sketching as much as I would like but I'm sure I will get better at it.

The next few are from Bobby Chui's Sketcholoic contests. They were done really quick but they were fun to do. Of course I didn't win anything but I enjoyed the chance to participate in the contests and watch the interviews. The first one is a Wall street Cyclops for an interview with Nate Wragg. The second is my favorite childhood anime for an interview with Dice Tsutsumi. I was a die hard pokeman fanactic.

I think thats it for now. I might have some other stuff, I just don't know where in my computer it is :P

SIGGRAPH was awesome. I'm so glad I was able to go. It was a great opportunity to make new friends. meet other students from all over the worl, and talk to some amazing people. I really hope I can volunteer again next year in Vancouver!!!

Also, school is right around the corner. This summer went by pretty fast, mainly because we did a lot of family visiting. Its been a crazy summer of dealing with traveling, finances, jobs, vacation and family but it was a good summer. I'm almost ready to get back into the school routine.  I'm excited about my classes this semester but there are still a few things I would like to do before school starts.

End of semester dump

These are all the projects I have done at the end of this semester and some animatcs I haven't put up.

This Is the last animatic I did for Concept class. We created our own story based on the idea "something wants some of your food". We then had to create our own story and characters with model sheets and everything. One thing I need to add to this piece is some music.

These are some animatics from the middle of the semester where we had to take 3 flatly staged panels, make them more dynamic and add our own story to it. These really helped me in creating interesting and effective shots in my animatics.

This is my Simple Poly project for computer animation. We had to create a simple polygon character with legs and make him walk and jump. I made a big improvement in my animation with these exercises.

And this is our last assignment in Traditional Animation. The whole class created a collaborative dance where each of our characters would come on screen, do a little dance, and transition creatively to the next character. this was a fun simple little project and it was a nice way to end the semester. This is just my dance. I'm not sure when we will get the video with the whole class's dance on it.

Pantomime

So, there's a kid and he is excited about a ride but he sees that he is too short. he tries to make himself taller but it doesn't work and he gives up and is sad. This is my first major traditional animation of the year :)

Wilbur!

He jumps! He flies! and... he's not really done. I would have liked to perfected this some more but I will have time after the critique to tweak it up. So this is what I'm turning in for class. Revised version will come soon.

Flour sack

My flour sack animation. The flour sack had to jump and do some acting. This s pretty a mixture of everything we have learned so far: arcs, overlapping action, follow through, and line of action, and it was all taken to a higher level. The acting  and making an actual form with weight were the newer parts of this project.

Final Ball project

TThis is my last assignment with the ball. we had to make the ball hit an object, have the object move and the ball must continue after the contact. Mine is a classic game of pong with a little twist. If I have time this week I will go back and make my letters prettier. So here is the animation.

The Wonderful world of bouncy balls... with a cape

yes, this one has a cape.

it wouldn't let me put three videos in one post...

The Wonderful world of bouncy balls

Traditional animation! these balls have some flaws... but they were still fun to do. I'm about to go finish my ball with a cape and then I will be working on the final ball project.
